Sustainability
Our take on it
It’ll always be a hot topic!
…Simplifying the mystery that is sustainability and the reason for all the hype;
In the broadest sense, sustainability refers to the ability to maintain or support a process continuously over time.
In business and policy contexts, sustainability seeks to prevent the depletion of natural and physical resources, so that they will remain available for the long term and more-so for future generations.
The three pillars of sustainability are economic, environmental and social ... also known informally as profits, planet and people.
The bottom line:
As consumers become more environmentally conscious, more companies and businesses are finding ways to reduce their impacts upon the planet and their community. Sustainability practices allow companies and businesses to highlight their social benefits while continuing to attract customers.

Suppliers and Customers - Packaging
Delivered but not in a Branded Cardboard Box? There’s no need for concern as it was intended this way.
Keeping our customers informed on what we are doing is at the core of what we do. There’s no surprises.
As a sustainability initiative Ute and Van online has reached out to our valued suppliers in establishing a commitment to the reuse of packaging materials whenever possible and we have more things planned in this space.
While branded packaging was primarily introduced to bring about greater awareness be it for the manufacturer or supplier there are other opportunities that packaging can deliver on.
There is opportunity for the cost effective reuse of materials handling packaging and we encourage businesses in choosing this option if it’s suitable.
Our focus on minimising waste is at the core in all that we do as is promoting practices that are easy and cost effective in taking up.
Customers finding themselves as indirectly supporting sustainability will benefit from a feel good moment and that’s a good thing.
Therefore we ask of our suppliers to ship whenever possible products in used and recycled boxes and reuseable packaging materials.
We also ask of our suppliers adopting these practices to advise of the reused and recycled boxes and materials in the transporting of their goods by way of an appropriately sized sticker identifying as participating in this initiative so there’s no surprises.
Little things add up – wooden transport pallets
Did you know?... The Australian standard pallet size is 1165mm x 1165mm and the Euro pallet size is 1200mm x 800mm! Hope these dimensions are a start of a new beginning or an alternate use for these pallets.
At Ute and Van online headquarters contributing to sustainability is important to us as is being seen doing the right thing. Our willingness to communicate what we do in this space is with a view to influencing others.
We have an in-house policy, more so a challenge as it more often turns out to be that all of our transport of goods purpose built wooden pallets either left behind from consignments because of odd sizing or single use materials, an unwillingness to separate them from consignments during deliveries or in the event the delivery entity having no means to dispose of them themselves or in the absence of an obligation for them to do so do not enter landfill (our large general waste bin).
Our initiatives to extend the useful life of these pallets include coordinating companies who pick them up and then profit from making them available for reuse elsewhere, is taking care of most of them.
In a lot lesser numbers there’s the alternate use pallet collectors who pick up broken and damaged pallets for our life after being a pallet initiative. At the very top of these collectors are dedicated volunteer woodworkers making toys for children while the remainder are used for activity materials at our local men’s shed and by home based hobbyists.
